HHS students proudly volunteered their time and energy on Friday night at Senator Ken Yager's 29th Annual Chili Supper! This cherished community tradition brought together residents and leaders from across the region, including Gov. Bill Lee, to support an important cause. This year's event supported the Roane County Anti-Drug Coalition, raising funds and awareness for substance abuse prevention. We are grateful to see our students making a difference in the community! 🍲💙 #HHSVolunteers #CommunityImpact #RoaneCounty

Our Teaching as a Profession students had a lovely visit from Zoo Knoxville. TAP students took part in a teacher workshop, where they learned how to make science instruction meaningful through hands-on experiences with bio-facts, animal skins, specimens, and even live animals. Students were engaged and eager to apply their learning in their Job Shadow experiences. Thank you for joining us! We hope to visit the zoo for another workshop soon!

Yesterday, several students from Mrs. Stout's and Ms. King's classes visited the University of Tennessee to explore the Baker School of Public Policy and Public Affairs. During their trip, they learned about the school and Senator Baker's enduring legacy. They experienced a taste of college life by participating in a mini-lecture on government, civics, and an economic scenario. The students also enjoyed a guided tour of the Baker School and had the opportunity to engage in a Q&A session with current UT students.

Throughout the program, they had the opportunity to engage with community leaders, attend civic meetings, and apply what they’ve learned through a hands-on community service project. Yesterday, the students and staff of HHS made a powerful statement by choosing not to dress up for Halloween. Instead, they came together in Pink and Teal to honor those fighting cancer. Many chose Teal specifically to show their support for Alyssa Branam, who is currently battling ovarian cancer. This act of unity and compassion reflects the heart and strength of our community, standing together for a cause that hits close to home. Thank you, HHS students, for showing such inspiring support and solidarity. #WeAreHarriman #beat cancer #cancersucks #TealOut

On Monday, HHS participated in the Student Mock Election. This is a statewide initiative organized by the Tennessee Secretary of State's office. It encourages students from all schooling types (public, private, and home school) across Tennessee, from PreK to 12th grade, to participate. It’s an opportunity for students to learn about the electoral process in a hands-on way. For additional resources on civics education and information on upcoming Student Mock Elections, students and educators can visit the Tennessee Secretary of State's Civics Education page - https://sos.tn.gov/civics.
